October 2022 - Subterranean Halloween Special

This is probably my most ambitious mix I have ever done. This also marks 1 year since I been doing this and this has been a long wonderful journey. This massive mega Halloween mix is split into blocks. Consisting with the first block of Halloween goth classics which is followed by part two of the mix which is all new goth tunes for the month. The third segment is filled with Halloween industrial tunes. The final part of this mega mix is the dark metal portion. I use dark metal as a general term of course. This part will consist of higher production black metal to gothic metal to maybe even some death metal. All that lo-fi stuff is reserved for my other mix, The Witching Hour.

Part one is an array of goth, darkwave and post punk tunes fitting for the Halloween season or otherwise generally spooky with markers which you will noticed throughout between songs. These markers are there to help you where you are in this behemoth of a mix such as horror movie trailers and scores. Instead of using the classic tired overplayed tracks I decided to bring in some new classics and some underrated Halloween themed goth songs that you may or may not heard of such as The Marshmallow Ghosts, Brother Orchid or Oscura Daemonia.

The second segment is really the meat of this part. Almost another Halloween goth mix except all of these are new as they have been all recently released in the month of October. Within the second part lays some titans of goth/post punk that have returned after such a long time and other releases I been longing for. London After Midnight has been a goth band stable since the early 1990's and this is another one of their long awaited releases after it was delayed last year. It is finally out with their latest Oddities Too. Another band marking their return is Blacklist who actually gained some traction within the post punk underground during the 2000's revival era. Gaining praise from such bands as The Chameleons, Alien Sex Fiend and many other veterans within the music scene. And my personal favorite group have released their second EP since the end of 2020. This is Cemetery Echo's Carnivorous Lunar Activities. I wish them all the success. Secret Shame is another one of my favorite bands to listen too which their new LP Autonomy.

Third act of this behemoth is for you lovers of industrial music. An almost two hour nonstop mix of Halloween inspired industrial tunes from God Module, Skinny Puppy to a different out of the ordinary Ministry's Everyday is Halloween track. It's mostly compiled of classic Halloween tracks and some new ones. There is no new music here unless you count the music released within the year such as Psyclon Nine, Michael Idehall or Tot. This part also includes The Electric Hellfire Club as they are re-releasing their debut LP on vinyl for the first time, Burn! Baby! Burn!.

The final portion is the metal side of the mix featuring Halloween inspired tracks and new music. There were two bands that caught my attention this month. One which I learned gothic metal band Frown isnt totally gone as they released a compilation of covers that were previously done for other releases through their career. One of their songs featured on here is Heartland, which is from a Sisters of Mercy Tribute. The other band is Dwell in Doom who sound like their are obviously inspired by Tiamat. For fans of that band I highly recommend them and it shows through their music.
